Model Overview

The FAW Lanjian H6 is a pick-up truck produced under FAW Hongta. Established in 1997, FAW Hongta was jointly formed by FAW Group and Hongta Tobacco Group. The model made its official debut on 14 January 2021, rolling out in 12 variants. In 2022, FAW Hongta introduced the 2022 Standard Edition powered by a 2.0T petrol engine. As of June 2026, the lineup on sale mainly comprises the 2021 variants, offering two powertrain options: a 2.5T diesel and a 2.0T petrol engine, with recommended retail prices ranging from RM85,800 to RM129,800. Positioned as a workhorse pick-up truck, the vehicle targets sole proprietors, construction projects, agriculture, forestry, livestock farming, fisheries, and other commercial and dual-purpose users.

Design Language

In terms of exterior styling, the FAW Lanjian H6 maintains the rugged and muscular design typical of pick-up trucks. The front fascia adopts an upright and squarish profile, featuring FAW’s classic vintage flying eagle emblem; the front grille is finished with black plastic inserts, matched with a black plastic front bumper. For lighting, the entire range comes equipped with halogen headlamps, paired with LED daytime running lights and front fog lamps.

In terms of dimensions, standard wheelbase (SWB) and long wheelbase (LWB) variants are available: the SWB version measures 5330×1880×1820 mm (L×W×H) with a 3095 mm wheelbase, while the LWB version extends to 5640 mm in length with a 3405 mm wheelbase. Its generous width of 1880 mm gives it a distinct advantage over peers in the same segment. The rear profile is cleanly styled with sharp tail lamps, presenting a neat and purposeful aesthetic.

Inside, the FAW Lanjian H6 features a youthful and contemporary cabin design whilst retaining a robust character. The steering wheel is leather-wrapped for a comfortable grip; the dashboard is largely constructed from plastic with an organised and well-layered layout. Higher-spec variants receive a central touchscreen infotainment display. Regarding seating upholstery, lower-spec variants feature fabric seats, while range-topping variants come fitted with leather upholstery.

Powertrain and Performance

The FAW Lanjian H6 is offered with a choice of diesel and petrol engines. The diesel variant is powered by a JE4D25Q6A 2.5T inline-four turbocharged engine, producing a maximum output of 110 kW (150 PS) and a peak torque of 360 Nm, with peak torque delivered across 1400—2800 rpm. The petrol variant is equipped with a Yunnei Power G20TGDI1 2.0T turbocharged engine, also delivering 110 kW (150 PS) and 360 Nm of torque. Both engines feature a longitudinal layout; the diesel variant runs on Euro 5 diesel, whilst the petrol version requires RON 92 petrol or above. Power is transmitted across the entire lineup via a 6-speed manual transmission. Drivetrain configurations include a choice of 4x2 (rear-wheel drive) and part-time 4x4 (four-wheel drive) systems. Top speed for the diesel variant is rated at over 140 km/h.

Chassis and Handling

The FAW Lanjian H6 is built on a robust ladder-frame chassis structure. It features double-wishbone independent suspension at the front and a rigid axle non-independent leaf spring suspension at the rear. The steering setup utilises hydraulic power steering. Braking is handled by front solid disc brakes and rear drum brakes, paired with a conventional mechanical handbrake. In terms of wheel and tyre setups, the SWB variant rides on 245/70 R16 tyres, whereas the LWB and 4x4 variants are fitted with 265/65 R17 tyres. Off-road capability is supported by a fully-laden minimum ground clearance of 210 mm. For the drive setup, 4x2 variants run on a front-engine rear-wheel-drive layout, whilst 4x4 models feature a part-time 4WD system.

Cabin and Features

Cabin equipment is strictly utility-focused. ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) and EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution) come as standard across the range. Higher-spec variants (Premium Edition) add dual front airbags (driver and front passenger), a 360-degree surround-view camera, keyless entry with push-start button, roof rails, as well as a leather-wrapped steering wheel and leather seats. Lower- and mid-spec models are equipped only with a driver airbag. For multimedia, top-spec variants feature a central touchscreen display with built-in GPS navigation. Cargo deck dimensions for the LWB variant measure 1790×1530×480 mm, while the 2022 petrol SWB cargo deck measures 1480×1530×480 mm. The rated payload capacity stands at approximately 495 kg.

Safety and Driver Assistance

On the safety front, the FAW Lanjian H6 comes standard with ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution), and front seatbelt reminders across all variants. For passive safety, a driver airbag is standard across the range, with the front passenger airbag reserved exclusively for the top-spec Premium Edition. Its ladder-frame chassis ensures high structural rigidity and collision protection. In terms of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), the model is not equipped with active driver aids, keeping the safety specification focused on fundamental active and passive systems.

Market Performance and Verdict

Market reception for the FAW Lanjian H6 has remained relatively quiet following its launch, with limited continuous sales records available in public channels. At the brand level, although FAW Hongta possesses extensive experience in the commercial vehicle segment through the joint venture between FAW Group and Hongta Group, its brand presence in the mainstream pick-up market remains modest. Owner feedback generally highlights the spacious cabin courtesy of its 1880 mm wide-body design, the punchy low-end torque from the 2.5T diesel engine, and the heavy-duty hauling capability provided by the ladder-frame chassis and rear leaf spring suspension. Conversely, the prominent use of hard plastics in the cabin, modest equipment levels, and the lack of an automatic transmission option are common points of criticism. Overall, with its wide-body dimensions, 2.5T/2.0T dual-engine options, ladder-frame chassis, and part-time 4WD system, the FAW Lanjian H6 delivers decent utility for the commercial segment, though limited brand recognition and basic specifications hold back its broader market appeal.
